K Viswanath: The Government of India has announced a few minutes ago that veteran filmmaker K Vishwanath achieved the most prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award for the year 2016. Information and Broadcasting minister M Venkaiah Naidu has approved his name, suggested by the Dadasaheb Phalke Award committee.
This award is usually given for giving an outstanding contribution to Indian Cinema and strives for the growth and development of it. The award has a Swarn Kamal (Golden Lotus) and a cash prize of Rs 10 lakh. The filmmaker will be given this award on May 3rd at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, by the President of India.
Since 1965, Vishwanath has made fifty films and he is well known for his strong content. He achieved the Padmashri award in 1992 and so far he received 5 National awards and 20 Nandi awards by the AP government and 10 Filmfare Awards. His film Swati Mutyam was India's official entry to the 59th Academy Awards in the Best Foreign Film category.
